Computer Desks – From Furniture Accessory to Household Necessity
In 2006 the population of the UK had climbed up over the sixty million mark. In 1998 only about nine percent of homes throughout the UK were among the billions of people worldwide who were accessing the internet. Since then that number has increased to over fifty percent, and astounding jump of almost seven times what it was less than a decade ago.
According to UK National statistics – fifty-nine percent of homes in the UK have computers and nearly sixty-eight percent of small businesses have computers or computer systems with access to the internet. All in all that could be millions of locations nationwide operating a computer (or computers) for some form of business or pleasure. With home offices, home based businesses, personal websites and gaming all on the rise; it’s no wonder that computer desks are becoming more of a necessity in today’s society.
With more than half the country already immersed in the world of technology from the comfort of there homes, and more and more UK citizens making the leap into the twenty-first century every day, it won’t be long before every home in the UK has a computer, and some style of computer desk to organize it.
Computer desks have come a long way in recent years, with styles and designs to fit any living situation and match the tastes of each individual.
A student living in a studio flat probably wouldn’t need the same computer desk as a business executive with a home office, or the same computer desk as a home-based web designer.
Apartment dwellers can easily find a small, lightweight, portable computer desks made of tubular metal and a few small pieces of pressed wood, just enough to hold their monitor and keyboard without intruding too much on their living space.
A graduate student, a doctor or a writer may need a computer desk equipped with extra shelving to handle many volumes of reference in addition to all the standard storage amenities.
An avid gamer may need a computer desk with built in CD holders to accommodate all of his or her disks.
A home-based business owner, whose house is decorated in Victorian style, will easily be able to find a mahogany computer desk that will fit directly in the theme of their décor - a mahogany computer desk complete with a hutch that can hold books and catalogues or display photos or diplomas.
Many people run their lives from their computer desks, with a place for your phone, your fax, your printer and drawers to keep everything you need for your finances. People work, communicate with one another through e-mails and instant messages, pay their bills, watch videos and listen to music, shop, print photos, order food, get directions etc., etc., etc. all from the comfort of their computer desks.
If you’re going to be spending so much of your time at one single piece of furniture, it only makes sense that there is one out there to perfectly match your individual needs. The prices of computer desks vary as much as the styles making it possible for someone on almost any budget to afford one. A large chain office store could have some small “economical” computer desks for under a hundred pounds, or someone could have a custom mahogany computer desk crafted for them and pay thousands.
Regardless of your financial or living situation, if you aren’t one of the millions and millions who has had to make a computer desk a functioning part of their home décor yet, you probably will be soon, and with all there is to choose from you shouldn’t have any problem at all finding a Computer Desk that fits your specific needs.
